Winter Update for Possible Christmas Storm

Winter Update | DEC 21st | Mark Gonzalez, Winter Forecaster

The winter solstice is almost upon us in a few hours (Midnight 12/22), however we are experiencing temps more reminiscent of mid-late October. What we are watching is this weekend -a snow possibility. But like what has happened so far this winter season, we may be in for another let down if you are a snow fan. The storm looks to track to our south Christmas night into Monday and we may just be cloudy and dry. What we truly need to get a good snowstorm here in Maryland is a certain pattern-a cold high pressure to the north that stays in place to give us a source of cold air and a storm tracking in the south/south-west and then "bombing" just off the coast. This does not seem to be the scenario for this upcoming Christmas storm chance-but things could still change, however at this point that looks highly unlikely.
