Feb 8 Snow Shot...

A MIXED BAG FOR MARYLAND TOMORROW | Winter Analysis Feb 7th | Mark Gonzalez

The precipitation event should be mainly light rain from a line from Washington to Annapolis on east and southward, although a few snow flakes may fall at the beginning of the event in southern Maryland and again when the precip begins to move out of the region on tomorrow evening. For locations to the north and west of Baltimore and Washington light snow is expected to fall even w/ temperatures above freezing. Being that most of the snow will occur during the daylight hours, it may have a difficult time sticking on paved surfaces because it will be light and the sun angle is beginning to higher in February. Again, amounts should be fairly light, so it is not expected to create much of a problem. We are anticipating perhaps a half inch to an inch of snow just to the west and northwest of Balt-Wash, up into the Western Maryland again maybe up to 3 inches where more cold air may get in-attached is a pretty good map from Scott from Wild About Weather that is pretty close to our forecast.

For Thursday into Friday, high pressure should result in
a mostly clear sky with slightly above normal temperatures.

A cold front continues to be expected to drop down from the
Canada Friday night. The models are still not agreeing on
what happens for the weekend-just plain cold and dry? or a snow storm? As a result, we’ll go conservative and say cold and dry, but keep an eye out for any changes just in case-To be honest, the way this winter pattern has gone… I’m afraid the cold high pressure this weekend may be so strong that it will either steer the approaching storm to the south of us or completely out to sea. Hopefully, we`ll see better agreement and consistency in model runs over the next few days. (MR G)
